Merit Chinese School offers classes in Kindergarten and Elementary school. Kindergarten is a two year
program that emphasizes brush stokes and character recognition. Elementary school currently offers classes from the 1st grade to the 9th grade. The curriculum emphasizes Cantonese reading and writing
skills, listening and conversation, as well as moral education.
Selection of curriculum is an area of vital concern for Merit Chinese School. The School adopts textbooks
used by Chinese schools in Hong Kong and Canada. Students will learn Chinese grammar, idioms, literature, history and traditional Chinese festivals. The curriculum is especially tailored for students
whose first language is English.
There are two examinations scheduled in each semester. Report cards are issued after each examination to
provide parents with an appraisal of their
child's performance.
