About Merit
 Located in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, Merit Chinese School is a non-profit organization
registered under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The School teaches the Chinese dialect of Cantonese, found in the regions of Hong Kong and Guangzhou, China.
Merit Chinese School is not affiliated with any organizations or political groups. The School
is governed by seven board directors who are also parent volunteers in the school.
Mission
Our mission is to provide an opportunity for children to learn the Cantonese language and to understand their cultural heritage. The curriculum emphasizes Cantonese reading and
writing skills, listening and conversation, as well as moral education.
Background
Merit Chinese School is currently the largest Cantonese-dialect teaching school in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area and has served the local community since 1987.
Currently the school has one principal, one administrative assistant,
twenty-three teaching
staffs, and more than ten parent-volunteers who assist in the weekly school activities. The school enrollment is approximately 120 students, ages 4 to 17, from different parts of the metroplex including Dallas, Plano, Richardson, Allen, Coppell, Garland, Lewisville, Rockwall and Rowlett. Students come from different cultural background including Hong Kong,
Guangzhou, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand.
